OUR HISTORY

On April 1, 2021, Mr. Dale Bradley announced Mr. David Guerra as the newest member of the Applied Patents Inc. team as a patent consultant.

October 1, 2009, Mr. Ben Wegner announced the appointment of Mr. Dale Bradley as President of Applied Patents Inc.  Mr. Bradley's practical expertise combined with dedication to service reflects the goals of Applied Patents Inc.  His business acumen and approachable manner speaks to his team's commitment to delivering premier service on time and on budget.

Founded by Ben Wegner and Terrance Siemens, Applied Patents Inc. has met the needs of professionals requiring intellectual property services since the late 1990s. The practice continues to be highly specialized in meeting the demands of an international marketplace.

Mr. Siemens brought a very special insiders' point of view. As a Primary Patent Examiner with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), he was imbued with the intricacies of the Office. He was afforded considerable respect in his field by co-authoring the
USPTO's Examination Guidelines for Computer-related Technologies Directed to Business, Artificial Intelligence and Mathematical Processing Applications, still in use today.

Together, Messrs. Wegner and Siemens combined technical, legal and business knowledge of patents.  Their specialized understanding of the frustrations, uncertainties, and challenges that arise in such endeavors, motivated them to develop a patent practice that would serve the needs of the business community.

Sadly Mr. Siemens passed away in July 2001.  We deeply appreciate his contribution.  Applied Patents Inc. is devoted to upholding the legacy of his professionalism, dedication and personal grace.

David Guerra

U.S. Registered Patent Agent

I was an Engineer and a Patent Agent before I became a Dad. That changed everything.

It wasn’t long into parenthood that my infant son had a serious fever. He was so uncomfortable, the only thing that would soothe him was his pacifier. In those few moments that it took to take his temperature, he struggled and my heart broke hearing him cry.

One night while he was sleeping and knowing that the time to take his temperature was looming, I thought, “I know, I’ll order one!”, a pacifier with a built-in thermometer. How simple! So I went on-line to order one and couldn’t find one that had the accuracy of an under-the-tongue thermometer and the comfort of a pacifier.

The next day at work, I did a patent search and discovered no one had come up with it yet.

How was that possible?

So, I became a patent holder to US 9,625,328 and CA 2,856,193.

My teenage son is now a talented athlete. And so it follows that I have now patented an impact reducing helmet (US 9,408,423 and CA 2,916,539). I am in the process of commercializing it now.

If I can peer into the future, I imagine soon I will be involved in autonomous vehicle technology. The idea of him driving is not one that I am yet comfortable.

As problem solvers, as people who see a better way, it is our responsibility to share solutions as we see them. Not everyone can do what we do.

In my over 20 years as a patent agent I have spoken to many people about what circumstances were that had them develop the technology that they did. It has always come from necessity such as (PCT/US2019/027248 ALL TEMPERATURE WATER BORNE SEALANT Red Devil Inc.).

If it solves a challenge for you, it will do the same for others. Our lives become richer as we serve our families, our communities, our planet.
